After stoking much controversy, the BJP's Uttar Pradesh unit dropped the controversial "love jihad" issue from its political resolution adopted at the conclusion of the two-day state executive meet at Vrindavan on Sunday.

Though some party leaders did raise recent issues related to alleged conversion and law and order situation in the western U.P., party sources said the executive restrained itself from directly mentioning the word "love jihad" during the day-long discussions on U.P.'s political situation.

"The leaders expressed deep concern over a recent incident of alleged gang-rape and conversion in Meerut and similar incidents at couple of other places in the state. 'Love jihad' was never on our agenda; but senior party leaders asked the State government to be more vigilant towards any such planned attempts of forced inter-religious marriages or conversions which could vitiate the atmosphere in the state," U.P. BJP spokesperson Vijay Bahadur Pathak told The Hindu.

After giving statements on "love jihad" to the media on Saturday, the State's BJP leaders chose to keep mum on Sunday even as Opposition parties and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav criticised them for polarising the people of the State.
