Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Jammu-based opposition parties, National Panthers Party [NPP] and Jammu State Morcha on Thursday staged a walk-out in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, holding the Kashmir-based political parties responsible for "glorification of terror" and demanding dismissal of the four-year-old Omar Abdullah government. During the Question Hour open, CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami demanded the state government's statement on Wednesday's killing of a civilian allegedly by Central Reserve Police Force [CRPF] in Zoonimar area of Srinagar. Even as Deputy Speaker Sartaj Madni assured the House that the government would come up with a statement, the MLAs of BJP, NPP and JSM shouted in one voice that the politicians from Kashmir had their concern limited to "only the terrorists". They emphasised that none of the politicians from the Valley had expressed concern for the five CRPF men killed on Wednesday in Bemina area of Srinagar. The angry opposition MLAs from Jammu said that the mainstream politicians from the Valley had not condemned the "Pakistan-backed fidayeen attack" on the Police school playground. Soon they raised high-pitch slogans, condemning the "anti-national" legislators and political parties. With the BJP's Ashok Khajuria and Jugal Kishore, JSM's Ashwani Kumar and BNPP's Harsh Dev Singh also pointing fingers on the Congress party's "silence of convenience", the Jammu legislators stressed that Omar Abdullah's government should be either forced to act against the "terror promoting elements" or dismissed for its "incompetence". They alleged that Wednesday's fidayeen attack in Srinagar was the outcome of the "glorification of terror" by the mainstream political leaders in the current Assembly session. "National Conference and PDP have grown blind in this competitive separatism. They have been openly encouraging and promoting terror. They are equally responsible for Wednesday's terror attack in which five CRPF men attained martyrdom", Mr. Khajuria alleged. The MLAs walked out in protest and did not attend the proceedings. The principal opposition party PDP had on Wednesday announced its boycott to the rest of the budget session to protest Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde's refusal to return Afzal Guru's mortal remains to the family. Consequently, only the members of the ruling NC-Congress coalition, CPI (M) leader Mr. Tarigami and some independent MLAs from Kashmir are holding the deliberation in the Assembly now in Jammu. Later, Mr. Khajuria told The Hindu that the deputy Speaker did not allow a special discussion on the fidayeen attack. He said that the BJP would in a couple of hours take out a rally and its legislators would offer themselves for voluntary arrest.
