Congress No Corporate, unhappy Partymen tell Rahul - Oneindia

New Delhi, March 15: The newly appointed vice-president of Congress Rahul Gandhi's attempt to re-invent the party in a "corporate style" has not gone down well with his party men. Apparently, the self-appraisal system, newly introduced by Rahul to gauge party men and their performances on the lines of corporate style self-evaluation has been rejected by Congress leaders. Some of the grouse against Rahul's new system to determine party men's efficiency are as follows. "The 20-point questionnaire came as a shock. Now, we feel as if we are being made to sit for the UPSC examination," said a senior Congress leader. "An element of lobbying against each other is in built ithe Congress. Often AICC leaders encourage such acts to elicit the mood in the organisation. Often it is promoted to get a real feel of an individual's status in the government," said another Congress MP. He added, "The only thing we have indulged in the past is a signature campaign against chief minister or a MPCC chief. But now it appears Gandhi is seeking accountability from individuals out to campaign against his/ her own chief minister." The self-appraisal system is for state Congress leaders to find out whether a Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) supremo should continue or not in the office. "The idea is to fix accountability and make the organisation more responsive," informed a senior Congress leader. Rahul's self-appraisal system is on the lines of corporate style self-evaluation and assessment of one's worthiness and capabilities. The self-appraisal consists of elaborate corporate-type questionnaire prepared by an agency and aimed at to gauge their performance and allow him to remove those who don't match his expectations. Some of the questions in the questionnaire are: "How many times have you met state party president and zilla presidents with the issues which relate to your constituency? What was the follow up by the state unit of the party? How many times did you raise the issue with chief minister? What was the response and reasons? How many schemes listed in the poll manifesto have been pursued by you in your constituency? What is the status of these schemes? Amongst those who are not holding any political posts the question is what is your role in the organisation? How many times did the districts or state president interact? What were the issues discussed and what was the outcome?
