India will bounce back to 7-8% growth in next 2-3 years: PM - Hindustan Times

Replying to President Pranb Mukherjee's address to the Parliament during the budget session, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday said in the Rajya Sabha that he agreed with the president that India needed high growth rate to solve the problems of poverty and unemployment. He said that his government is doing its best to achieve high growth rate and slow growth rate of the country will not stay for long.

Highlights of PM's speech:

UPA has opened up path for economic reforms

No matter what the opposition says I stand by reforms

Will return to 7-8% growth in 2-3 years

India's growth highest since UPA came to Power

More effort needed to improve growth in agriculture

Throughout UPA govt social expenditure high to include inclusive growth

Slow growth is not here to stay

All political parties should come together to fight terrorism

will work with state govt to evolve consensus on fighting terror

There cannot be normalisation of ties with Pakistan until terror machine still active there is brought under control: PM.

We are worried about Tamil population in Sri Lanka; there should be reconciliation: PM.

We sincerely hope people of Maldives will overcome the atmosphere of crisis: PM #ht

With regards to Nepal there is uncertainity but we hope the multi-party democracy will survive.

Our policy towards Pakistan has been the same since the last nine years and will continue to guide us in the future.

I sincerely hope we will work with our neighbours to give the SAARC region a high growth profile.
