BANGALORE: The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) denied reports that it has plans to test champion boxer Vijender Singh saying it does not advertise its intentions on dope testing as projected in the media. "We operate on the premise of surprise raids or checks and do not announce our arrival beforehand," top NADA sources told TOI. "Neither do we make known what our plans are for the future. This principle is followed the world over." Reports on Sunday suggested that NADA would test Vijender aft er his friend Ram Singh admitted to have taken drugs. Sources pointed out the drug in question -- diamorphine (heroin) -- comes under narcotics which is banned only during competition. "If one tests positive for heroin out of competition it does not constitute an anti-doping violation," they said. One player penalised for such violation is Adrian D'Souza. The Indian hockey goalkeeper was suspended in 2012 for testing positive for a metabolite of marijuana (which too comes under narcotics category) during the World Series Hockey (WSH) tournament. Asked whether NADA would conduct tests if the investigating authorities seek their help, the sources said: "We will not oblige any agency which comes to us for reasons other than sport. More importantly, we will not test someone based on mere allegations." Also strengthenin g Vijender's case is the fact that though he has been tested by NADA at least 8-10 times in the past three years, the results have always been negative. What the WADA rules say.... "As per the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) rules, heroin falls under the narcotics list and its use is prohibited only during competitions. It means that an athlete does not risk facing sanctions under anti-doping rules even if he's found positive for heroin use during an out-of-competition test" via Top Stories - Google News http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&fd=R&usg=AFQjCNHd5ILslhiMj4mlHdfAvYr8TceDUg&url=http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/more-sports/boxing/No-plans-to-test-Vijender-Singh-says-NADA/articleshow/18899551.cms | |||
