NEW DELHI: Following Ram Singh's death, Tihar authorities are shifting the other four co-accused in the gang rape case to cells with CCTV surveillance. However, lack of cells with CCTV cameras are posing to be a problem. Tihar has only 258 CCTV cameras currently, most of them placed outside cells in barracks or the compounds. "We will shift them to cells which have CCTV. They will remain lodged in the same jails that they are in now, but their cells will be changed. They have also been placed under 24-hour surveillance of guards," said Tihar law officer and spokesperson Sunil Gupta. However, sources in jail said that finding cells which are fitted with cameras will prove to be difficult. "These cameras are mostly in high risk cells for sensitive cases and given to convicts. Otherwise the majority of the cameras are outside the jails within the complex," said a jail source. Singh's brother Mukesh Singh (29) and another co-accused Vinay Sharma (20) are lodged in jail number 7 while the other two co-accused Pawan Gupta (19) and Akshay Singh (29) are in jail number 4. Sources said that ever since Singh's death, they have been disturbed. However, no psychiatric counseling is being offered to the four co-accused. "Psychiatric counseling is done on an SOS basis. No plans for such counseling for the four are in the offing yet," added the source. Gupta confirmed, "If there is a direction from the court for such counseling, it will be of course done, as is normal. Otherwise there are no plans for such counseling at the moment."
