The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and Indian School Certificate (ISC) results were announced on Friday, but they did not spring any surprises. As has been the norm, this year too, girls swept clean the top slots in both the exams held for classes 10 and 12. Bhuvaniya Vijay, a student of class 12 at St Joseph's Academy in Dehradun, was the overall topper with a score of 99%. The spot for class 10 topper was a tie between three girls — all from Maharashtra. Anika Aggarwal and Simran Khanuja, schoolmates at Pune's St Mary's School, and Mansi Arora from Mumbai's Chatrabhuj Narsee Memorial School scored 98.4 per cent. Girls dominated the scene in NCR rankings too. The top positions went to Shivali Malhotra and Bhavya Kulshreshtha from Shri Ram School-Aravali Campus in Gurgaon. Both scored 98.75 per cent. However, the ICSE topper was a boy — Shivanshu Chaudhary from Holy Angels School, Sahibabad with 97.5 per cent. While 2,401 students appeared for the ISCE exams from the NCR, of which 99 per cent passed; 996 students gave the ISC exams and the pass percentage was recorded at 97.69. The gender war was won by girls again in Delhi, with 99.63 per cent of them clearing the ICSE exam in comparison to 98.48 per cent boys. In the ISC exams, 98.96 per cent girls passed while the number stood at 96.5 per cent for boys. The same trend was visible across the country — 98.78 per cent of girls cleared the ICSE as compared to 97.73 per cent boys. In ISC, the pass percentage stood at 96.66 for girls, while it was 93.91 per cent for boys. But students from the NCR performed better than the nation as the region's pass percentage stood at 99% as compared to the 98.2 % for India and abroad in ISCE; for ISC, Delhi's pass mark was 97.69 % as compared to 95.15% for India and abroad. 'Extra-curricular activities are equally important' 'Initially I was disappointed as I'd expected more marks' 'Humanities too offers many opportunities' "The perception of science offering more options is no more valid. Humanities now offer a whole lot of opportunities," she says. She has applied to various colleges within and outside India for majoring in psychology. But she will also pursue her passion for singing and photography. ![]() via Top Stories - Google News http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&fd=R&usg=AFQjCNFYXvyi9u4E6LL8_6Mi8aMulElKzw&url=http://www.hindustantimes.com/India-news/NewDelhi/ICSE-results-out-girls-outperform-boys-yet-again/Article1-1061867.aspx | |||
