Express news service : Mumbai, Sun Jun 23 2013, 04:26 hrs ![]() ![]() ![]() Seven peeople, including an eight-year-old girl, were killed and seven others injured as a four-storey building collapsed in Dahisar (East) on Saturday morning. The building, Piyush Co-operative Housing Society, a dilapidated structure situated adjacent to the railway tracks at Dahisar, was served an eviction notice by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in 2010 and was subsequently evacuated after the building's foundation reportedly developed cracks. Civic officials said that the some local vegetable and fruit vendors were staying illegally in the building. Local residents who witnessed the mishap said that the building came crashing down within seconds at 6.30 am. According to the police, civic and fire officials, on receiving a distress call from local residents five fire brigade engines, three cranes and seven ambulances were rushed to the spot. The also received information that more than 15 people were feared trapped in the debris. Dahisar building collapse leaves seven dead, seven injured, three incidents in one month The deceased have been identiifed as Faizan Shaikh (22), Dharmendra Ashok Harijan (22), Sarabjit Yadav (44), Asif Shaikh (22) and the daughter of the building's watchman Bhagmati Lamsar (8), her uncle Lalsingh (35) and her mother Nandkala Lamsar (30). The collapse of the building that housed a number of diamond polishing units and 24 commercials units until two years back, is the third such incident this month that has raised questions over the existence of dilapidated buildings in Mumbai and Thane. On June 10 a part of Aftab Manzil crashed in Mahim while Smruti building collapsed in Mumbra on Friday claiming ten lives each. Those injured in today's incident are Pramod Prajapati (40), Anilkumar Gupta (21), Ranjitkumar Maory (40), Santosh Prakash Ghone (35), Rambharose Rabhar (22), Govindlal Gupta (35) and Jay Prakash Gupta (44). While six have been admitted to Bhagwati Hospital in Borivali (West), one was taken to Navnit hospital in Dahisar (East).
