Decision on alliance with BJP will be announced on Sunday: JD(U) - IBNLive

Patna: Janata Dal (United) chief Sharad Yadav met Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar soon after landing in Patna on Saturday evening. Yadav, who is also the NDA convenor, said that the "final decision" on the JD(U)'s 18-year-long association with the BJP would be declared on Sunday. The alliance between the two parties is on the verge of a breakdown over the appointment of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the BJP's campaign chief for 2014. While Yadav has till now maintained that the alliance is intact, Nitish has held his own on the issue, with sources claiming that he is firm on separating from the BJP. The Bihar BJP leaders held a meeting at the residence of Deputy CM Sushil Modi's residence on Saturday shortly after refusing to meet Nitish. The state party chief, Mangal Pandey reiterated that the BJP wanted the alliance to continue, but warned that it can't be dictated to. "We would never be the first ones to break the alliance. It is up to the JD(U) to clarify if the alliance is intact or not," he said, adding, "Alliances don't work on dictation or force". JD(U), which shares power with the BJP in Bihar, is the second-largest constituent of the saffron-party led NDA. If the alliance breaks, Nitish will fall four seats short of majority in the Bihar Assembly. However, efforts have begun in earnest to find allies. An independent MLA claimed that the JD(U) had approached him for support.
