Digvijaya calls woman MP '100% tunch mal' - Hindustan Times

Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh on Friday called a woman party MP "100% tunch maal". The words are sexist, offensive, and roughly translated they mean a "desireable" or sexy woman".

Singh, a veteran politician and chief minister of Madhya Pradesh for 10 years, was speaking in Mandsaur when he praised local MP Meenakshi Natarajan. "She is very hardworking. She has done good work in Mandsaur and has impressed people in Delhi too. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi like her. Not only that, she is 100% tanch maal," said Singh at a public rally.

Natarajan, 40, is one of the most promising young Congress parliamentarians. She has earned praise fo r simplicity grassroot work and parliamentary work.

Singh often creates controversy for his statments--just on Thursday he claimed the Batla House encounter was fake despite a court judgment and accused Rashtriya Swayam Sevak activists of making bombs--but gets away by clarifying that his views are personal. It remains to be seen how he explains his latest statement.
