MUMBAI: Public prayers, feasting and charity crowned Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations that call the end of Ramzan austerity. This year, the biggest feast on the Islamic calendar became doubly auspicious as the festival occurred on a Friday. People greeted one another after prayers at neighbourhood mosques, shortly after sunrise. In Mumbai, large congregations gathered at Anjuman Islam grounds in south Mumbai as well as at mosques in Mohammed Ali Road, Pydhonie, Byculla, Bandra, Andheri, Jogeshwari and Kurla, apart from Mumbra and Mira Road on the outskirts. "We spent the afternoon enjoying sheerkorma, mutton biryani and chicken curry with in the company of family and re latives, who came visiting. The children received Eidi (gift of money) and wanted to go watch a film in the evening, but tickets were not available as early birds had booked in advance," said Bandra poultry dealer Shafi Shaikh. Fans gathered outside the Bandra neighbourhood where actors Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan reside, hoping to catch a glimpse of the stars at festival time. A fashion designer who had designed a 20-ft greeting banner showed her gift to the waiting mediapersons. Maulana Burhanuddin Qasmi of Markazul Ma'arif wrote, "May Allah accept all our supplication, prayers and fast that we offered during Ramzanul Mubarak and reward us all with happiness and seren ity on the advent of Eid-ul-Fitr." Writer Kausar Zaidi sent a "special dua'a" to his friends to say, "May Allah Almighty bless you with sehat, nemat, izzat, barkat, daulat, salamti and kamyabi and unlimited happiness in your life day and night like Eid." On "chand raat" Thursday night, markets in Bhendi Bazaar, Linking Road and Lokhandwala Complex were buzzing with shoppersbuying food, clothes and fashion accessories and women applying henna on their palms. Barber shops were open past midnight. via Top Stories - Google News http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&fd=R&usg=AFQjCNFhR_q86I3ihrkxo_zKqSNXKCBrQQ&url=http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/mumbai/Celebrations-double-as-Eid-ul-Fitr-falls-on-Friday/articleshow/21735558.cms | |||
