Haryana CM Hooda denies govt role in Robert Vadra deal - Hindustan Times

A day after IAS officer Ashok Khemka's submission of a 100-page document, detailing the allegedly illegal land deals by businessman Robert Vadra and construction major DLF Universal, Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said his government had not "lent any support to any individual or company on illegal grounds". Khemka's May 21 reply to a three-member committee's report, dubbing his orders to cancel the land deal inappropriate and without jurisdiction, reportedly argued that Vadra had executed a series of "sham transactions" in the course of the land sale and was "aided" by Haryana's department of town and country planning. The committee was earlier constituted to scrutinise the October 12 and 15, 2012 orders issued by Khemka as directorate general, land records and consolidation of holdings, to cancel the mutation deal. State chief secretary Pradeep Kumar Chaudhery told HT that the state government would examine Khemka's reply. "We want to be fair to him and also be responsible in coming to a conclusion on the findings drawn by the committee." At the centre of the controversial deal is a 3.53-acre plot in Gurgaon's Shikohpur that was sold by Vadra, son-in-law of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, to DLF. Khemka reported that on August 5, 2008, Vadra's Skylight Hospitality entered into an unregistered collaboration agreement with DLF. He observed that no price was paid as claimed in the registered deed and this led to a huge loss of revenue to the state exchequer, while Vadra "pocketed" a huge premium on a commercial licence. The BJP on Saturday hinted at the manner in which a clean chit was sought for Vadra. "The Congress will soon have to open a factory of clean chits the way it's going," said party spokesperson, Meenakshi Lekhi. "Congress is known for misusing institutions. In case of one IAS officer, the Congress president chose to write to the PM, whereas in this case, the officer is being hounded," said party spokesperson, Prakash Javadekar Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party, the first to allege Vadra's involvement in the Gurgaon land deals last year, praised Khemka.
