J&K: Army foils another infiltration bid in Kupwara district - Hindustan Times

The Indian Army foiled yet another infiltration bid in Jammu and Kashmir's Keran sector in Kupwara district quite close to the Line of Control (LoC) early on Sunday morning.

Indian Army sources said the Ustaad battalion spotted some movement around 3am. Soldiers challenged a group of militants who were trying to sneak into Indian territory and an exchange of fire took place.

According to a defence spokesperson, some militants were killed in the firing but no bodies have been recovered yet due to bad weather in the area. There were no casualties on the Indian side.

A search operation is on and more details are awaited.

The army had gunned down two militants on August 14 in the same area when they were trying to enter the Indian side. The number of militants killed during infiltration bids in the last two months has risen to 21.

The incident comes less than two weeks after Pakistani soldiers killed five Indian jawans 400 metres inside the Indian territory in the Poonch sector on August 6.
