HyderabadGujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will hold a mega rally in Hyderabad today to kick off the BJP's election campaign for the 2014 general elections. The rally will be held in the evening at Hyderabad's Lal Bahadur Stadium, where the BJP says over one people will be in attendance.

The BJP's new tagline - "nayi soch, nayi umeed (new thinking, new hope)" - is expected to be launched at the rally as the central theme of its campaign. Mr Modi's posters with the new tagline have been put up all over Hyderabad, ending any lingering doubts about the party's top star and Prime Ministerial face.

"Congress is responsible for all the ills faced by the country. That's why we want a 'Congress-mukt Bharat'. Narendra Modi, as the chairman of the campaign committee, will be starting his campaign from Hyderabad with a call to the people to make India free of Congress party," senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu had said two days ago.

However, many say that the ongoing agitation against the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh has cast a shadow on the much-publicised rally. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema regions have witnessed widespread agitation ever since the Congress announced decision to create Telangana state on July 30. Sources say the BJP's unwavering support for Telangana has disappointed party cadres in Rayalaseema and several workers and leaders from the area have decided to opt out of Mr Modi's rally.
