JAMMU: Pakistani troops violated ceasefire for the third time in two days, targeting Indian posts across the LoC and the international border in Jammu & Kashmir on Sunday. A BSF jawan was seriously injured in the exchange of fire, which lasted several hours. According to defence sources, Pakistan troops targeted at least 13 forward posts with small and medium weapons in Mankote and Balakote sectors in Poonch. The firing at Mankote started at around 1.30 am while posts at Balakote came under attack at 7.30am, the sources said. Indian troops retaliated effectively and there was no loss of life, they said. Apart from targeting Indian posts, the Pakistan Rangers also resorted to unprovoked firing from across the border in the Kan Chak sector, where a BSF jawan was injured. The BSF responded effectively, leading to heavy exchange of fire which lasted till 2pm, a spokesman said. "Pakistan Rangers resorted to sniper fire at around 0735 hrs at forward BOP post, Alfa Machal, in Kana Chak sector, barely 25km from here. The BSF retaliated and in the exchange of fire, a jawan — identified as Pawan Kumar of 122 Battalion — was seriously injured. He was shifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Jammu," the spokesman said. The jawan received bullet injuries in his chest and spinal cord and has been referred to AIIMS in Delhi. Another BSF jawan, Ram Niwas Meena, who was injured in cross-border firing in Samba on August 5, died in AIIMS on Saturday following a multi-organ failure. On July 27, the jawan was injured in unprovoked fire by Pakistani troops from across the border in Hiranagar of Kathua. The latest round of ceasefire violation started on Friday night when the Pakistan army had fired 7,000 rounds of heavy Pika ammunition and mortar shells during the exchanges which lasted seven hours. via Top Stories - Google News http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&fd=R&usg=AFQjCNGYnaTNd8x8RCUlOal442EDHTDMnA&url=http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Pakistan-fires-at-13-posts-BSF-jawan-hurt/articleshow/21769821.cms | |||
