Narendra Modi focuses harder on youth after AAP scare in Delhi - Hindustan Times

The BJP and its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will woo the youth more as part of a revised strategy after Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) spectacular debut in Delhi in the recent assembly polls.

For this effect, the "Run for Unity" programme announced by Modi across the country on December 15 – to gather momentum on building of the world's tallest statue of India's first home minister Sardar Patel – is now to be fully endorsed by party bigwigs and turned into a political show of power.

Over the next three months, the party's strategy is to bring focus back on Modi's leadership as a counter to the Congress and AAP. Signatures of hundred thousands of people will be collected for a "suraaj petition" for better governance of India.

As a show of support for Modi, LK Advani will join him in Ahmedabad for the run. Other BJP leaders will also lead shows in various parts of the country.

Party chief Rajnath Singh, MM Joshi and Arun Jaitley will lead the show in Delhi. Senior leaders like Sushma Swaraj, Venkaiah Naidu, Gopinath Munde, Nitin Gadkari, Amit Shah, Ananth Kumar, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Yashwant Sinha and Shankar Prasad will also be seen promoting the run.

Ipsita Nayak from Citizens for Accountable Governance told HT that besides "Run for Unity" in 565 locations, the campaign would see a "Write for Unity", a slogan and essay competition on Sardar Patel and his ideals of India's unity in 200,000 schools.
