Villagers decided that except for a few whom Hazare knows personally, no one will be allowed to join him on the stage. Some villagers also met him and expressed their concern about politicians in the agitation.
"On Friday, retired army chief V K Singh used Anna's stage to target Arvind Kejriwal and AAP. However, Anna did not stop him. Instead, Anna asked AAP leader Gopal Rai to leave the village when he questioned Singh. This has sent a wrong si gnal," villagers told him.
After a discussion, Hazare said no one would be allowed to make a political statement during the agitation. On Saturday, villagers ensured that people who had shared the dais with him in the last four days of the fast, were kept away. Only Kiran Bedi, Anna's close aide Vishwambhar Chaudhari and his personal staff were allowed on the stage.
Bedi supports Lokpal in present form
Former IPS officer Kiran Bedi, who joined Hazare in his indefinite fast on the fifth day on Saturday, defended the Lokpal bill draft presented by the government in the Rajya Sabha. "Those who say the Lokpal bill is weak should read the draft. It provi des freedom to the CBI. There are many provisions to ensure that the CBI works independently. Anna's struggle for the last three years will be fruitful if the bill is passed immediately," said Bedi. Her stand is in contrast to AAP's objection to the bill. AAP leaders have called the current draft "Jokepal" and have announced that the party will raise its voice if the bill is passed in its current form.
