New Delhi: President's rule and subsequent re-election in May now appear to be the only possibility left for Delhi in the wake of a hung verdict.
With Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday throwing the ball back into Congress and BJP's court over government formation, Delhi is staring at the central rule at least for the next few months.
While not outrightly rejecting the offer of support either from the Congress or BJP, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Kejriwal yesterday wrote a letter to presidents of both the parties listing 18 issues and asking whether both parties will support AAP on these.Among the issues are: reducing power bills by upto 50%, providing 700 litres of free drinking water to every household daily, no government bungalows and red beacon cars for ministers or MLAs, etc.

Even if a layman is asked, he would give an answer that neither of the national parties would say yes to AAP on these issues.
In that scenario, the only option left before the AAP would be to form a minority government which could fall any day, as Congress and BJP may have offered it unconditional and constructive support, respectively, now but could pull the plug anytime in the future.
In that case, it appears highly unlikely that the AAP would take the chance of forming a minority government which would not have a guaranteed lifetime.
The new party, which made a stunning debut in the Delhi elections winning 28 seats, would instead prefer to sit out till May when the re-poll could be held alongside Lok Sabha elections.
However, in that case too three different scenarios could emerge: 1. the AAP would do similarly well, winning around 28 seats; 2. the AAP could win some extra seats, as those who were not confident about the new party's standing prior to December polls could go in its favour; and 3. the party could suffer as the popular vote could go BJP's way, as Narendra Modi factor is likely to work for the national party during the Lok Sabha polls due in May.
So, it appears to be a tightrope walk for the AAP now and uncertain next few months for Delhi.
