Bajwa says Punjab ignored in Union budget - Times of India

CHANDIGARH: Describing it a disappointing Union budget, Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa said that finance minister Arun Jaitley seemed to have avenged his defeat from Amritsar by ignoring the border state. Alleging that Jaitley had ignored Punjab, Bajwa said none of the pressing problems, including mounting debt burden and capital flight to the neighbouring states, had been addressed in the budget.

"These were the major concerns which the Akali Dal-BJP government had taken up with the new regime. Even Panjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, which had pioneered green revolution in the country, has not been included for grants," said Bajwa.

He said that the finance minister spoke about green revolution in his budget speech, but without going into specifics or mentioning the name of Punjab, whose contribution to the food security of the country had been the highest. "After his anointment as the Prime Ministerial cand idate, Narendra Modi had started his campaign from Pathankot in Punjab. However, today's budget has made it clear that there is nothing in store for the government for Punjab." He said that only new project allocated to Punjab was the IIM, and it was part of the routine exercise as UPA government had given several such projects to the state, despite it being ruled by SAD-BJP combine.
