PATNA: Nitish Kumar said on Monday that the people would no more be influenced by the divisive politics and the results of the ten assembly seats bypoll showed that the unity among non-BJP parties would pose serious threat to the saffron party.

After over three months gap, the former CM was in jubilant mood as six candidates of the new alliance comprising JD(U), RJD and Congress won the assembly byelection bypassing BJP and its allies which could win only four seats. "The popularity of Narendra Modi is on wane," he commented as his staff distributed laddoos to the media people.

"If BJP leaders continue with their arrogance the 'achche din' (good days) for the party will not last long. Our experiment is a success and people have rejected the charges BJP leaders had hurled on me. The result also that showed that there is no such vote bank of different upper castes," said Nitish while addressing the media in a small room chocked a block with camera crew and reporters at his new official residence, close to RJD supremo Lalu Prasad's residence.

The RJD boss who was in Delhi was rushed to Mumbai for a cardiac surgery to be held there on Tuesday. Asked if the similar alliance will continue in the next assembly election in 2015, Nitish said, "For the next elections, all the parties will take a decision on their own and then sit together to finalise their course. We have to move ahead slowly." He refused to comment when asked about the possibility of more non-BJP parties joining the grand alliance.

Nitish who was flanked by state JD(U) president Bashistha Narain Singh, Shyam Rajak and Samrat Chaudhary, both ministers and party spokesman Sanjay Kumar Singh, did not mention name of alliance partners nor that of Lalu Prasad. He called the three RJD, two JD(U) and one Congress candidates who won the byelection as "our candidates" while congratulating them and thanking the voters. "I am satisfied with the results," he said and added never before such national and media interest had been seen in any byelection in the country which this one generated.

The former CM who campaigned with Lalu Prasad in five constituencies and traveled together, said the rivals targeted him and called names but people gave them a befitting reply. Nitish also clarified that he not even once uttered the words 'jungle raj' (for Lalu-Rabri Devi regime) and said he had called it 'Atank Raj' (rule of terror). The jungle raj words were used by the court and the BJP, he added. "Now it has become a fashion to call jungle raj 1 and jungle raj 2. I don't think this even deserves a comment by me," he said.
