Treason case against me exposes frustration of India: Shabbir - The Nation

SRINAGAR- Senior Hurriyet leader and the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), Shabbir Ahmad Shah has termed the registration of a treason case against him and the Pakistani High Commissioner in New Delhi, Abdul Basit, as frustration of the Indian government.

Shabbir Ahmad Shah in a media interview in Srinagar said that such tactics could not force him to change his stance on the Kashmir dispute. He said that after taking a hasty decision of canceling foreign secretary level talks with Pakistan, the registration of treason case against him and the Pakistan High Commissioner reflected a childish attitude of the Indian government.

He said that his stand on Kashmir dispute could never witness any change even if all the modes of suppression were adopted by the government of India. "They cannot choke my voice for right to self-determination as a solution for the Kashmir dispute," he maintained.

Shabbir Ahmad Shah said that India's decision to cancel secretary level talks with Pakistan was uncivilized, undemocratic and an uncalled for move which had been condemned by the whole world.

The Hurriyet leader maintained that Kashmir was an internationally recognized dispute, which could be resolved through tripartite talks involving Pakistan, India and the genuine Kashmiri leadership. "No pressure tactics or childish decision can settle this conflict. Government of India must understand that there are UN resolutions passed on Kashmir so it will have to go in accordance with these resolutions," he added.
