Arvind Kejriwal's 7 km Roadshow Begins With Song and Dance: 10 Developments - NDTV

Here are the latest developments in this story:

  1. The AAP chief will begin his roadshow at the Valmiki Mandir from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched his Clean India Campaign last year and will end at Jantar Mantar, which has played host to many Kejriwal dharnas or protests.
  2. The activist turned politician will present his party's vision for Delhi at the roadshow. Mr Kejriwal, who resigned as Delhi chief minister a year ago after only 49 days in office, has repeatedly admitted that quitting was a wrong move and has appealed to Delhi to give him another chance.
  3. Last night he tweeted an appeal to Delhiites to "take a chhutti n join me (please take leave and join me)" at the roadshow.
  4. The BJP has picked former top cop turned activist Kiran Bedi as its chief ministerial candidate to counter Mr Kejriwal. She joined the party and also politics only four days ago.
  5. "Congrats 4 being nominated as BJP's CM candidate. I invite u 4 a public debate moderated by neutral person n telecast by all," Mr Kejriwal tweeted this morning, also requesting Ms Bedi to "unblock him on Twitter."
  6. Kiran Bedi said she is accepting the challenge but will debate Mr Kejriwal on the floor of the House.
  7. There was much speculation on whether the BJP would also field Ms Bedi in a direct confrontation with Mr Kejriwal in his New Delhi constituency, but BJP chief Amit Shah has opted to give the former IPS officer what is seen as a safe seat so that she can be free to campaign all over Delhi.
  8. Against Mr Kejriwal the BJP is fielding Nupur Sharma, a young lawyer and graduate from the London School of Economics. Ms Sharma has been a BJP youth wing leader.
  9. The Congress has put up former Kiran Walia to contest against Mr Kejriwal  in the NEw Delhi constituency. In  thee December 2013 elections, Mr Kejriwal had in his first ever election defeated then chief minister Sheila Dikshit by 26000 votes in New Delhi, a constituency that the Congress leader had held for years.
  10. Ms Bedi and Mr Kejriwal are both officials who became activists and have joined politics pledging to clean the system. They were the closest advisers to Gandhian activist Anna Hazare during his campaign for more accountability and transparency through new anti-graft laws, before falling out.
