We all know AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal is always hankering for a good debate. Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, Kejriwal invited Modi for an "open discussion" in Varanasi. "I invite Mr Modi for an open discussion on a public platform. Let Kashi people ask straight questions from both of us. Time place his choice," Kejriwal had tweeted in May last year.
And now as soon as Kiran Bedi, a former IPS officer, was declared BJP's chief ministerial candidate from Delhi, Kejriwal sought a debate. The AAP chief first congratulated his one-time ally and then proceeded to invite her for a public debate:
But there was a slight problem. Turns out that while the world may have been able to see his invite, Bedi may not, which forced Kejriwal to tweet:
And, someone did manage to convey the message to her.
But then again, there was a reason why she blocked him.
Kiran Bedi told news channels that last year when Kejriwal called himself an anarchist; she blocked him on Twitter. She also "blocked many others who spread negativity," she said.
Bedi was declared the BJP's chief ministerial candidate after the meetings of the BJP Parliamentary Board and the Central election Comimittee, and party president Amit Shah said the decision to elevate the 65-year-old was "unanimous".
The former IPS official will contest from Krishna Nagar seat in East Delhi, considered a BJP stronghold and a traditional party seat from where Harsh Vardhan had contested last time. She reportedly didn't want a face off against Kejriwal.
The day Bedi joined the BJP, Kejriwal had said he was very happy. He also said that he was 'very fond' of her.
And, it seems the AAP has been trying really, really hard to talk to Bedi on Twitter.
Just three days back, AAP leader Kumar Vishwas requested Bedi to unblock him and Kejriwal.
But at the same time, AAP launched a twitter war against Bedi and Shazia Ilmi, who have recently joined the BJP by pulling out old tweets of the two.
In a subtle attack on Ilmi on Wednesday, AAP chief Kejriwal retweeted one of her tweets, dated November 21, 2013 titled 'Hypocrisy, thy name is BJP' The tweet by Ilmi, who was in AAP at that time, criticises the BJP and the Congress over its funding. He was joined by Vishwas, who posted more than half-a-dozen old Kiran Bedi tweets in which she gave her views on the Congress, the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi from 2010.
