Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi raised the issue with Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and has asked for a 'proper system to ensure safety of tourists in the country'.

He has expressed fear, that lack of safety in the country will have a hit the tourism sector. Chiranjeevi started an exercise of contacting all chief ministers urging them to institute an adequate mechanism for safety of tourists in their respective states.

Just a few days after a Swiss woman was gang-raped in Madhya Pradesh, a British woman became another victim. The woman, a foreign tourist, was assaulted in Agra, Uttar Pradesh.

The victim was lucky enough as she managed to escape from the attack when the accused had tried to impose himself on her in a hotel room in the city.

The girl, who jumped from the balcony of her room on the first floor, has been admitted to a hospital with severe head injuries and fractured legs. Agra police arrested the accused who has been identified as the hotel owner.
