Proceedings of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Tuesday were marred by the protests and disruptions by legislators against the alleged manhandling of some of their counterparts by a police official in the premises of the state legislature. However, there is another version too from the state government that some legislators allegedly beat up a police officer who had come to the legislature. The assembly speaker Dilip Walse Patil has condemned the incident and announced that a thorough inquiry would be conducted into the incident. Similarly, the chief minister Prithviraj Chavan also condemned saying that such an incident had taken for the first time in the history of Maharashtra Legislature and the strictest action would be taken against those involved in it. He told reporters that the investigations are being carried out by the Speaker as well as by the government. He though declined to give the nature of the action said it would be taken on Wednes day when the state finance minister and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar will be presenting annual budget for 2013-14. Chavan also said the nobody is irreprehensible and the aggrieved should not take law into their hands. Earlier, the Maharashtra Assembly witnessed some unruly scenes as four MLAs gathered up to beat up a police officer. The scuffle happened after one of the MLAs moved a 'breach of privilege' motion against the policeman, saying that he had prevented him from speeding on the road on Monday. After moving the motion, MLA Kshitij Thakur pounced on Assistant Sub-Inspector Sachin Suryavanshi, who was in the visitors' gallery. Later, three others joined him. The other MLAs involved in the attack have now been identified. Apart from Kshitij Thakur, the other legislators, who are said to have involved in beating the police officer, include Ram Kadam, Rajan Salvi and Pradeep Jaiswal. Ram Kadam belongs to the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), Ra jan Salvi is a Shiv Sena MLA, while Pradeep Jaiswal is an Independent. The Democratic Front government minister, who did not want to be identified, said the action may be in the form of suspension of the concerned legislators and also of the police officer. via Top Stories - Google News http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&fd=R&usg=AFQjCNGCNu4K4MTxXKnNeYygKHPjY614bw&url=http://www.business-standard.com/article/current-affairs/mlas-allegedly-beat-up-cop-in-maha-legislature-premises-113031900541_1.html | |||
