Zeenews Bureau Bhopal: Cornering the Madhya Pradesh government over the Swiss woman gang-rape case, Opposition Congress on Monday demanded state Home Minister Uma Shankar Gupta's resignation leading to disrupting of Assembly proceedings. The state Assembly was today adjourned for the day following ruckus by Opposition Congress over the issue. As the House assembled for the day, Congress members, led by Deputy Leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Choudhary Rakesh Singh Chaturvedi, dressed in black clothes bearing the caption "MP number one in rape cases," created bedlam raising slogans against government and demanded the minister's resignation. However, Industries Minister Kailash Vijaywargiya, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra an d Panchayat Minister Gopal Bhargava opposed the Congress members and requested them to allow the Question Hour to proceed. But Congress members then reached the well of the House raising slogans while pressing for Gupta's resignation. Intervening in the matter, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that it was an important issue and the government is ready for the discussion. However, Congress members insisted that the matter will be taken up only after the Home Minister resigns from his post. When the Congress members did not relent and persisted with their demand, Speaker Ishwardas Rohani first adjourned the House for half-an-hour. Later, when the House resumed, the Opposition members again created an uprorar following which the Speaker adjourned it till 11.30 AM. When the House assembled after the Question Hour, Congress members again raised the issue of Gupta's resignation vociferously and amid the din, the Speaker transacted the listed business without any discussion. Later, when the Opposition did not heed to the Chair's request for order, the Speaker adjourned the House for the day. Madhya Pradesh police on Sunday arrested six accused in the Swiss woman gang-rape case. It is being learnt that while the state Congress president Kantilal Bhuria will stage a protest in Bhopal, the Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Ajay Singh will stage a sit-in at Datia to highlight the rising crime against women in the state. the party sources said. The state police yesterday arrested six accused and recovered the mobile and the laptop robbed fr om the victim and her husband. "We have arrested six accused persons who raped the Swiss woman and recovered her mobile," SM Afzal, IG, Chambal Range, told a news agency. They were identified as Baba, Bhutha, Rampro, Gaza alias Brajesh, Vishnu Kanjar and Nitin Kanjar. While five were picked up earlier in the day, Nitin was arrested in the evening in Niwadi, about 100 km from here. All the accused have admitted to the assault that took place on Friday night, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) DK Arya said. The couple told the police that the victim was gang-raped by seven or eight men but as it was pitch dark they could not be sure of the exact number who attacked her, he said. The Swiss tourist, on a cycling trip along with her husband, was allegedly gang-raped at a forest area in Datia district, on the night of March 15. The traumatised woman was treated in the nearby city of Gwalior and was in a state of shock, police said, adding she later left for Delhi. On a three-month vacation, the couple--who are adventure tourists-- was camping at a forest area for the night while on their way back from Orchha, home to temples of Lord Ram, and were planning to cycle to Agra when they were attacked and looted by some persons who took away their laptop, mobile and other valuables.(The offence took place at Jhadia village, eight kms from Datia town, at around 9 pm on March 15, when the woman along with her partner was touring the region on a bicycle as part of their India tour, police said. They told the police that the husband was thrashed, overpowered and tied to a tree after which they took turns raping the woman. Besides the mobile and laptop, they also stole Rs 10,000 with the couple.
