Boston: Uttar Pradesh Urban development minister Azam Khan on Thursday decided to abruptly terminate his US trip and return back home after he was frisked and detained at Boston airport. Khan reportedly conveyed through his information officer Khurshid Ahmad that he was no longer interested in continuing with his trip and wanted to pull back.

According to reports, Azam was detained for questioning for about ten minutes and then allowed to go.

Khan is said to have confided to his personal staff that he was meted such a treatment as he is a Muslim.

"I have not faced such treatment in my entire life," Azam is stated to have said.

Azam Khan was on an invitational trip to Harvard University Business School, accompanying Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav. They had been invited to deliver a lecture there at the successful organization of Kumbh Mela in Allahabad recently. The makeshift tent at Prayag was the biggest of its kind in the world with exceptional sanitation and power arrangements in place.

The security at busy Logan International Airport at Boston has been substantially beefed up since the twin bombings at the finish line of Boston Marathon, a terror attack which left 3 dead and more than 180 injured. The inability of FBI and CIA to track the movements of slain Boston bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev has been widely criticised which is believed to have led to the decision of US security services beefing up their airport security in the aftermath.

Significantly, Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan has in the past also expressed displeasure at being frisked and stopped at a US airport when he was too on an invitational trip to deliver a speech at Yale University.
