A day after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal tendered his resignation as Delhi Chief Minister over the Jan Lokpal Bill, party leader Yogendra Yadav on Saturday said that the future course of action would be decided after the meeting of the party's Political Affairs Committee (PAC).
He also asserted that whether or not Kejriwal fights the Lok Sabha polls, the party would contest the elections under his leadership. "A historic decision was taken by the Delhi Government. If we are stopped from passing the Jan Lokpal Bill, then we will not stick to our seats. To decide the future course of action, we are having a meeting," he told media here today.
"We have said this before that whether or not Arvind Kejriwal fights the Lok Sabha polls, the party would definitely contests in the upcoming polls under his leadership. The rest would be decided after the meeting," he added.
Meanwhile, AAP leader Somnath Bharti said that the party entered into politics to fight for the rights of the people. "We never entered politics for power. We fought for the rights of the people. But when we saw that our agendas are not allowed to be implemented, we resigned," he said. "The intentions of Congress and BJP were very clear yesterday. We had followed every procedure, and the Bill was as per the law. We will give the Jan Lokpal to not just Delhi but to the entire country," he added.
Earlier on Friday, Kejriwal resigned as Delhi Chief Minister after the Assembly session was adjourned sine die following protests by the opposition over the Jan Lokpal Bill. "Today Jan Lokpal Bill was not allowed to be introduced, BJP and Congress united to oppose it. Their true faces have been brought in front of all of us," he said to the AAP supporters who had gathered outside the party office here today. I did not come here for power. And today our Government has tendered its resignation. And I will consider myself fortunate if I have to sacrifice my life for the country. We had a Cabinet meeting right now, and it was decided that our government will resign," he added.
Kejriwal also said that the Delhi Assembly should be immediately dissolved, and demanded for re-elections in the state. He further claimed the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for blocking the Bill in the House, in retaliation to the FIR filed by the Delhi Government against Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani over gas prices.
