The Maharashtra government on Tuesday suspended Deputy Inspector-General of Police Sunil Paraskar from service.
The government found him guilty of misconduct in the alleged rape case filed by a city-based model against the officer. The State Home Department earlier recommended suspension of the officer. The report recommending his suspension, was cleared by Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan later in the day. Mr. Paraskar has been placed under suspension for a minimum period of six months and a departmental inquiry would be carried out simultaneously, a senior State Home Department official told The Hindu.
On July 24, a 26-year-old Gladrags model lodged a complaint accusing the officer of raping and molesting her between November 2013 and March 2014 when he was posted as the Additional Commissioner of Police (North Region). Mr. Paraskar was granted anticipatory bail by a Mumbai session court on August 12.
