The Modi government appointed new governors in Rajasthan, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa on Tuesday.

A Rashtrapati Bhavan communique said the new governors taking charge are Kalyan Singh (Rajasthan), Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala (Karnataka), C Vidyasagar Rao (Maharashtra) and Mridula Sinha (Goa).
C Rao will replace K Sankaranarayanan, who resigned as Maharashtra governor last week after refusing to be transferred to Mizoram by the government. "I sent my resignation today to the President of India.... It is not possible for me to go to Mizoram," Sankaranarayanan said in a press conference in Mumbai.
Sankaranarayanan thanked the people of Maharashtra for the support they extended to him during his tenure. Asked whether the move is part of political vendetta, he said, "That is up to you people to comment about it. Our press people are so shrewd, so capable, so intelligent."
"I actually supported the Constitution," he said, adding, "We want the prestige and status of the governors in future also."
"In a democratic set up, no government is permanent... no post is permanent, that will change. Democracy is bigger than anything, we are one of the biggest democratic countries in the world," he added.
The post of Goa governor, which would now be taken up Mridula Sinha, had fallen vacant after BV Wanchoo had resigned from the post in June, hours after being questioned as a witness by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team in connection with the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper procurement scam.
Former Uttar pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh will replace Margaret Alva, who had retired as Rajasthan governor. Similarly, Vajubhai Vala took over as Karnataka governor after HR Bhardwaj completed his tenure in June.
Amidst reports that she may be shunted out of Kerala, Governor Sheila Dikshit on Monday had met Home Minister Rajnath Singh and President Pranab Mukherjee.
During her 15-minute meeting with the Home Minister, Dikshit is understood to have discussed her continuation in the Thiruvananthapuram Raj Bhavan, sources said.
But details of the discussion are not known. "These are all rumours," she told reporters, after her meeting with the Home Minister, when asked whether she would resign as Kerala Governor.
Dikshit is said to have refused to quit after the NDA government had allegedly nudged her to resign. There have been reports that suggested that the former Delhi Chief Minister may be transferred to a state in the Northeast.
