HYDERABAD: It would be a chaotic Sunday for Hyderabadis. The multiple diversions and traffic restrictions apart, put in place in view of Gujarat CM Narendra Modi's `Nava Bharath Yuva Bheri', what's likely to add to the woes of citizens are the 40,000 marriages scheduled across the city all through the day. August 11 is believed to be one the most auspicious days of the Shravana maasam. Areas in and around the L B Stadium, the venue of the Yuva Bheri, are expected to be worst-hit. The scores of function halls and hotels located in its periphery would only make matters worse and lead to endless traffic snarls. The authorities, meanwhile, have imposed traffic restrictions on 10 routes, hoping to ease the situation. Traffic moving from the Assembly towards Fateh Maidan, for instance, will be diverted towards Nampally and Public Gardens while vehicles on the Abids - L B Stadium stretch will be diverted towards Chapel Road. Similarl y those travelling from the Old MLA Quarters to Basheerbagh will be diverted towards Himayathnagar Y junction. These restrictions will be in place between 2 pm and 7 pm. "Depending on the volume of traffic, we will increase the number of traffic personnel at major junctions," said Amit Garg, additional commissioner of police, Hyderabad. According to BJP workers, Modi's meeting is expected to draw close to one lakh people. They even claimed to have taken necessary steps to address traffic woes. "We will see to it that there are no parking problems or traffic congestions," said party leader K Lakshman. In other parts of the city, too, especially along roads leading up to temples, marriage halls and other venues, the traffic situation is likely to be grave. According to experts, this unusual wedding rush is due to shuddha panchami on August 11. "It is a phenomenon that happens once in 30 years and is considered very auspicious," said Krishna Kaundinya Sharma, a seni or priest from the city who will be performing four marriages on Sunday. "This is also the first Sunday of the auspicious shravana maasam," said K Ramanujacharyulu, former principal of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam College at Bowenpally adding, "There have not been many muhurthams in the last two months. From September, again there will be a dry spell for over a month. That is the reason for this rush." via Top Stories - Google News http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&fd=R&usg=AFQjCNEL9ZM7KD-FritKxQPwSikRy7jYbA&url=http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/hyderabad/Narendra-Modi-and-marriages-Traffic-chaos-looms-on-Hyderabad-today/articleshow/21752157.cms | |||
