LUCKNOW: At least two persons were killed and a woman was wounded critically in a blast that took place at the godown of a scrap dealer in Agra on Thursday morning. Since the blast site is situated barely a kilometer away from the Taj Mahal, the incident triggered panic in the city, but the police acted swiftly and managed to defuse the tension before the situation could deteriorate. Additional director general of police (ADG) Law & Order and Crime Arun Kumar ruled out a terror angle to the blast. "We have the entire sequence of events before us, so there is no possibilities of the explosion to have been a result of a terror attack," he said. As a precautionary measure, district police has been directed to keep a tab of junkyards in the city and conduct surprise checks in order to ensure such an incident is not repeated, said the ADG. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Agra, Subhash Chandra Dubey, said the incident took place around 9:30 am at a scrap store situated in Baldeo Nagar locality under Tajganj police station of the city. Investigations revealed the explosion took place at the store of a junk dealer Sohbaran when his son Ram Niwas and Chhotu while sorting scrap under different categories tried to cut a container shaped like a metal cylinder when it went off. Ram Niwas and Chhotu were killed in the blast while Sohbaran's wife Shanti was wounded critically and was undergoing treatment. "We have secured samples from the blast site and have sent them for forensic examination by ballistic experts to decipher the probable nature and source of the explosive that triggered the blast. There was possibility that the blast was caused because o f gaseous substance inside the container which the duo was trying to break into two. But we will be able to say anything specific once we get forensic reports of samples secured from the blast site," SSP Agra said. via Top Stories - Google News http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&fd=R&usg=AFQjCNHnntHnc8E6BCSxhy_pseMqRcACjA&url=http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/lucknow/2-killed-in-Agra-blast-police-rule-out-terror/articleshow/19733678.cms | |||
