India dominated the entire second day, as they scored 438 runs in their first innings to got the crucial lead of 246 runs. If Indian opener Dhawan missed his third international ton by mere two runs then Rahane scored his maiden Test hundred in style. Indian skipper also contributed well with the bat by scoring 68 runs before Jadeja and Zaheer played crucial cameos for their team down the order. India also picked a wicket of P Fulton, in the second innings to put more pressure on the home side. The highlight of today's play was undoubtedly the century scored by Rahane. At stumps of Day 2, NZ were trailing by 222 runs and they have nine wickets in hand.

But one of the NZ openers, P Fulton got out in the second over of the innings off Zaheer Khan. Now India have an upper hand at the moment and it's a good chance for the visitors to win the match to level the series.

Indian innings came to an end with the wicket of Zaheer Khan. Visitors scored 438 runs in their first innings to get the crucial lead of 246 runs, on the second day of the final Test. Rahane and Zaheer were the last two wickets to fell. Zaheer played a cameo of 22 before getting out. India, who is trailing in the series 0-1, have a good chance to seal the match and level the series as they have an upper hand. Now it's up to their bowlers to get the better of NZ batsmen for one more time.

Finally, Ajinkya Rahane has scored his maiden Test ton. And he has done it in style by scoring a boundary through mid-wicket region. He celebrated his first hundred in a calm and composed manner. What a player he is truing out to be for India. After scoring a ton, he scored two more boundaries in the same over to celebrate his hundred. Meanwhile, India have also crossed the mark of 400 runs. So the lead is now above 220.

MS Dhoni and Ajinkya Rahane are looking rock solid and now they have started scoring boundaries at will. Both are smashing boundaries every now and then. A green wicket which was looking difficult to bat on, on day one, isn't troubling these two batsmen in the middle. Rahane is turning out to be a good middle-order batsman for Team India. In South Africa too the lad has proved his credentials and here at Wellington he is proving his mettle once again. Dhoni Out. A short ball at the leg stump by Boult and Dhoni caught himself at an awkward position and got the thin edge of his bat and the ball went inside the gloves of wicketkeeper. Third wicket for Boult.

In the morning when India resumed from their overnight score of hundred for two, Shikhar Dhawan and tail-ender Ishant Sharma (hero of first day of second Test), were looking good but then Ishant got the outside edge off Boult and Watling took good catch behind the wickets. Sharma score 26 runs off fifty balls before leaving the field. But then India lost two more wickets in quick succession in the form of opener Dhawan and Rohit Sharma. Dhawan missed his third international ton by just two runs and then within a couple of overs, Rohit got out for a three ball duck. After losing three quick wickets Ajinkya Rahane and new run-machine of Indian team Virat Kohli stitched 63 runs partnership for the sixth wicket before Wanger got the better of Kohli. Since then Indian skipper and Rahane are in the middle and looking solid. Both have already added more than eighty runs for the seventh wicket. Meanwhile both the batsmen have completed their fifty run mark. Rahane is on 68, whereas MSD is playing on 50.

Wellington: Ishant Sharma exploited the seaming conditions brilliantly to return with a career-best six for 51 as India took early control of the second and final cricket Test by skittling out New Zealand for a paltry 192 in the first innings, on Friday.
Sharma (6/51) justified captain MS Dhoni`s decision to bowl first on a greentop as the lanky pacer kept the host batsmen on their toes with his testing line and length. Rising pacer Mohammad Shami (4/70) also contributed in India`s dominating performance show on day one as he picked up key wickets of Kane Williamson (47) and debutant James Neesham (33) at crucial junctures.
Opener Shikhar Dhawan then hit an attacking unbeaten half-century as India reached 100 for two at close, still trailing by 92 runs at the Basin Reserve. Dhawan (71) and night-watchman Sharma (3) were at the crease after the visitors lost the wickets of opener Murali Vijay (2) and Cheteshwar Pujara (19).
