New Delhi: BSP supremo Mayawati on Saturday urged the Election Commission to take strict action against yoga expert Ramdev for his 'insensitive' remarks about Dalits.
"I want to tell the EC and the Uttar Pradesh government through the media that an FIR should be launched soon against BJP's aide Ramdev for his derogatory remarks against Dalits. The EC should ensure that Ramdev is arrested for his statements," Mayawati said.
Ramdev on Friday stirred up a controversy by saying that Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi visited the houses of Dalits in Amethi for "picnics and honeymoon".
However, after facing flak across the political divide, Ramdev on Saturday apologised for the statement he gave against Rahul Gandhi and the Dalits. Offering his apology to the Dalits, Ramdev said his statement had been misinterpreted and that he didn't mean to disrespect the Dalits. "I offer my apologies to the Dalit community if their feelings were hurt," he said.
His apology came after an FIR was filed against him in Lucknow over the remark.
