JammuJammu and Kashmir is still tense after communal clashes in Kishtwar, 230 km north of Jammu, in which two people were killed over the weekend. With the clashes expected to cause fireworks in Parliament today, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has ordered a judicial inquiry.

Educational institutes have been shut across the state and mobile internet services blocked after clashes on Sunday. A curfew was imposed in Jammu and Rajouri yesterday after incidents of arson and violence, which led to the Army being called in.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Jammu and Kashmir government of "hiding something" after senior party leader Arun Jaitley, on his way to visiting Kishtwar, was stopped at the Jammu airport on Sunday.

A few BJP supporters were also detained while trying to enter Jammu and Kashmir from Punjab.

Mr Jaitley, the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, is expected to raise the issue in the Upper House.  "Unfortunately, the state government does not want the truth to come out... there is complete anarchy and non-accountability," he said.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah hit back at the BJP, saying his government would not allow parties to politicize Kishtwar ahead of elections.

"I appeal to the people not to let the political parties exploit your sentiments. I am using the channels of the media to tell you to not fall prey to rumours. Don't allow political parties to exploit these rumours," Mr Abdullah said in a statement.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mehbooba Mufti, who was planning to visit Kishtwar, also said she was stopped.

The BJP and separatist groups have called a bandh in the state.
Three persons were injured in clashes on Saturday. Even as Army troops in armoured vehicles drove through the streets of Kishtwar, the local administration advised people to stay indoors and not to violate prohibitory orders.

The state government has already ordered a high-level inquiry into the clashes and has transferred the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police of Kishtwar district as part of efforts to restore peace in the town.
